The Slippery Rock University baseball program has been honored with the 2026 American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award, recognizing a cumulative team GPA of 3.390 for the 2025‑26 academic year.
That figure reflects a consistent scholarly standard, as the program has posted a team GPA of at least 3.00 for each of the past 14 seasons, underscoring a culture that values both classroom achievement and competitive success.
A Season Defined by Wins and Wisdom
On the field, the Rock compiled a 30‑18 record, capturing its 21st 30‑win campaign under head coach Jeff Messer and securing a berth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament.
Individual Scholars Recognized
The award also highlighted individual academic standouts, with five players — Gage Gillott, Cole Grady, Michael Kitko, Joey Vanzin and Clay Wiesen — earning perfect 4.00 GPAs, while an additional 25 teammates maintained a 3.25 GPA or higher.
Beyond the statistics, the program’s narrative is woven into a broader tradition of the ABCA, an organization founded in 1949 that has continually spotlighted the dual achievements of coaches and student‑athletes across the nation.
