The 2025-26 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III Academic Top 25 has placed the Albion Britons eighth overall, acknowledging the squad’s combined 3.815 grade point average for the entire season.
The honor roll celebrates teams that maintain a collective GPA of at least 3.0 across all student-athletes, a threshold the Britons comfortably exceed while also boasting the highest average in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Coach Sarah Mitchell and the coaching staff have emphasized both competitive success and scholarly achievement, a dual focus that has propelled the program to its best academic standing since the 2020-21 season.
Academic Excellence as a Program Pillar
That year, Albion posted a 3.681 GPA and ranked sixteenth nationally, also the top team in the MIAA; the 2025-26 placement marks a return to the top-25 after a five-year hiatus.
The Britons’ ascent coincides with a broader trend of athletics departments integrating academic metrics into recruitment and performance goals, a shift that the WBCA says reflects the association’s 31-year commitment to recognizing scholarly excellence.
With the team’s GPA now ranked eighteenth among all divisions, the achievement underscores the program’s balanced approach, suggesting that sustained on-court competitiveness can coexist with rigorous academic standards.
