The Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) has unveiled its 2026 football preseason coaches' poll, placing the University at Albany near the middle of the conference's 13‑team field.
Preseason rankings
In the poll, the Great Danes were slotted 11th, a position that reflects both the competitive depth of the league and the optimism surrounding the program's recent progress.
Alongside the ranking, the conference announced its preseason All‑Conference honors, recognizing standout players who are expected to make an impact early in the year.
Defensive standout
Linebacker Dillon Dunathan, who led Albany’s defense with 71 total tackles in 2025, earned a spot on the Preseason All‑CAA Honorable Mention Team.
His ability to anchor the front seven and generate pressure will be a key factor as the Great Danes look to improve on last season’s defensive metrics.
The Great Danes open the 2026 season at home against the University of New Hampshire on August 28, a game that will set the tone for their campaign.
With a blend of experienced returnees and fresh talent, Albany hopes to climb the standings and contend for a conference title.
