The University of Pittsburgh’s baseball program has been awarded the 2025‑26 American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award, a distinction reserved for teams that maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Award Highlights Dual Commitment to Athletics and Scholarship
According to the award citation, the Panthers posted a 3.20 cumulative GPA throughout the 2025‑26 academic year, while their fall semester GPA reached 3.29, marking the second‑highest semester average in program history.
The recognition also highlighted the team’s academic roster, with 12 student‑athletes earning spots on the All‑ACC Academic Baseball Team this spring, continuing a streak that began three years ago.
Among those honorees, infielder Kai Wagner led the group with a 3.813 cumulative GPA, and outfielder Derrick Tarpley topped the spring semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
University officials say the award reflects the program’s deliberate focus on developing student‑athletes who excel both on the diamond and in the classroom, reinforcing the institution’s broader mission of holistic achievement.
