Eagles Soar Toward a Final Championship
The Ouachita Christian Eagles have etched their name into Louisiana high school football history, capturing five LHSAA titles in the past fifteen seasons. After a string of quarterfinal appearances over the last seven years, the program is hungry to translate consistent success into a coveted state crown.
Head coach Steven Fitzhugh, now in his tenth year, stresses that the foundation for a breakthrough lies in daily work and collective belief. “We’re building strength, on the field and in the locker room,” he says, emphasizing that motivation is a habit, not a momentary spark.
At the heart of the offense, rising quarterback Tristan Raymond will inherit the starting role, while veteran wide receiver Hunter Oglesbee and transfer Luke Edwards form a potent receiving duo. On defense, D’Siah Bradshaw, a standout defender from northeast Louisiana, returns after recording 22 tackles for loss, eight sacks and three punt return touchdowns last season. Offensive coordinator Drew Vidrine, who has mentored multiple quarterbacks, including his son Luke Vidrine, believes the team’s balanced attack will be key to overcoming tough defenses.
The senior class, featuring players such as Gavin Polk, Maddox Fitzhugh and Hunter Canal, is determined to cap their high school careers with a championship run at the Caesars Superdome. Their ambition is matched by a rigorous schedule that includes matchups against Haynesville, Oak Grove and Bunkie, teams known for their defensive prowess.
Beyond the gridiron, the Eagles have excelled academically and community‑wise, with many seniors earning All‑State honors and committing to colleges like East Texas Baptist University and the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Their achievements reflect a holistic approach to development championed by coaches Drew Vidrine and John Spann, the latter holding the program’s career sack record.
One Game at a Time
Hunter Oglesbee, the rising senior wide receiver, encapsulates the team’s mindset: “We’re focusing on winning one game at a time.” That mantra has guided the Eagles through early practices and will be the compass for the upcoming season, as they aim to stay healthy, stay focused, and keep the momentum building toward a historic finish.
