The final day of the 2026 Polk County 7‑on‑7 tournament saw Auburndale High School’s twin duo, Teo Edwards and Takeo Edwards, etch their names into the school’s record books as they secured the program’s fourth championship in the event’s history.
A Championship Built on Brotherhood
Teo, a sophomore quarterback, and Takeo, a senior receiver, combined for two touchdown connections during the title game, a 27‑8 victory over Bartow that capped an unbeaten run through pool play and the semifinals. Their chemistry, forged on backyard fields and years of shared practice, proved decisive when a deep out in the semifinals initially faltered, only to be redeemed in the championship.
Head coach Antonio Thomas, who has guided the program with an emphasis on manhood, scholarship and perseverance, praised the brothers’ relentless work ethic and mutual expectations. “They push each other to be better every snap,” Thomas said, noting that their competitive drive sometimes spills into frustration but ultimately fuels growth.
Stat Sheet and Future Prospects
In 2025, Teo posted 2,151 passing yards and 26 touchdowns while adding 530 rushing yards and five scores. Takeo contributed 707 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, helping the team finish the season 8‑3. Both earned all‑county honors and are now drawing heavy interest from colleges across the nation.
Training camp for the 2026 season is slated to begin on July 27, a date that will mark the next chapter for the Edwards brothers as they balance high school commitments with the recruiting process.
Auburndale’s Growing Legacy
The victory adds to Auburndale High School’s storied football tradition, a narrative overseen by the school’s administration and community partners. The program, hosted on the campus at Auburndale, Florida, continues to attract attention from across the state, reinforcing the town’s reputation as a hotbed for emerging talent.
