Clemson University has secured a significant addition to its men’s basketball program by landing David Fuchs, a 6‑foot‑9 forward from Vienna, Austria, who last season earned West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year honors at San Francisco.
Fuchs, who stands 6‑foot‑9 and weighs 245 pounds, brings a blend of size and shooting efficiency, having shot 51.7 percent from the floor and 10‑of‑33 from three‑point range last year, while also posting a 61.6 percent free‑throw rate over three collegiate seasons.
The move brings the Tigers to 14 scholarship players, just one spot shy of the NCAA’s new 15‑player cap, a milestone that underscores the program’s aggressive recruitment in the transfer portal.
However, the roster reshuffle comes with setbacks: Carter Welling, Clemson’s top rebounder for the 2025‑26 campaign, suffered an ACL tear during the ACC Tournament, and RJ Godfrey, the team’s leading scorer and second‑leading rebounder, graduated this offseason.
A New Era for the Tigers
Head coach Brad Brownell, who has overhauled his entire coaching staff, has also welcomed transfers Cole Certa from Notre Dame and Liutauras Lelevičius from Texas Christian University, while freshman Amare Adams adds depth at the backcourt.
With veterans Ace Buckner and Zac Foster expected to run the backcourt alongside Certa, and potential freshman Harris Reynolds in the mix, the team will lean on a mix of experienced big men — including Chase Thompson, Dallas Thomas, and the newly arrived Fuchs — to anchor the frontcourt.
The blend of size, shooting, and fresh talent suggests a competitive outlook for Clemson as it prepares for the upcoming season, aiming to translate its recruiting momentum into on‑court success.
