A new era for Ohio State women's hockey
Jack Johnson, the former Colorado Avalanche defenseman who helped the franchise capture its third Stanley Cup, has been named Assistant Head Coach for Ohio State's women's hockey program. His arrival marks a significant addition to a staff already anchored by head coach Nadine Muzerall.
Muzerall, who has led the Buckeyes since the 2016‑17 season, guided the team to two NCAA National Championships. Under her direction, Ohio State has become a consistent contender in the women's hockey landscape, blending elite talent with a developmental philosophy that emphasizes both performance and character.
Johnson's playing résumé includes a standout collegiate career at the University of Michigan, where he tallied 75 points over two seasons before being selected third overall in the 2005 NHL Draft. After transitioning to the professional ranks, he contributed 29 points in 179 NHL games with the Avalanche and was part of the club's championship roster.
Expressing enthusiasm for the new partnership, Muzerall highlighted Johnson's potential to elevate the program on the ice and in recruiting. "Jack brings a wealth of experience and a winning mindset that aligns perfectly with our ambitions," she said, noting that his presence is expected to attract top-tier talent to Columbus.
