Award Recognition
The West Virginia University baseball program has been recognized with the 2025‑26 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, an honor administered by Sports Attack that celebrates teams maintaining a collective grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
During the 2025‑26 academic year the Mountaineers posted a cumulative GPA of 3.36, marking the third straight year they have earned this distinction and the fourth time overall that the program has been celebrated for scholarly achievement.
National Landscape
The award this year acknowledged 132 Division I programs across the nation, underscoring a growing emphasis on balancing athletic competition with academic rigor.
A Tradition of Excellence
The American Baseball Coaches Association, which has overseen the award since its inception in 1949, continues a long‑standing tradition of highlighting both coaches and student‑athletes who exemplify excellence on and off the field, offering additional recognitions such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
