Jordan Ax, the head coach of the Astoria girls basketball team, announced his resignation this week, citing medical reasons as the driving factor behind his departure.
Ax had been hired ahead of the 2025‑26 school year and, in his lone season, compiled a 5‑19 record while working to establish a foundation for the program.
Despite the modest win‑loss tally, he succeeded in forging strong bonds with student‑athletes, their families, boosters, fellow coaches and the broader school administration.
