Indiana University's men's basketball program has confirmed the addition of Sam Alexis to its roster for the forthcoming FISU America Games in Peru. The former Hoosier arrived in the South American nation on Tuesday morning and is slated to start the team's first group‑stage contest against the Virgin Islands on Thursday.
A Veteran Presence Returns
Alexis brings a modest but promising NBA Summer League résumé, having averaged 3.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game while suiting up for the Oklahoma City Thunder's developmental squad. His defensive instincts and familiarity with the Hoosiers' system make him a valuable asset as the team looks to make an early impact in the tournament.
The roster also includes SMU transfer Samet Yigitoglu, who has been cleared to train with the squad but will not be eligible to compete for Team USA at the event. Hailing from Turkey, Yigitoglu is expected to contribute depth during the season, though his participation in the Peru tournament remains off‑limits under current eligibility rules.
Freshman recruit Clemens Sokolov will not be joining the team until August, leaving the current lineup without the anticipated rookie presence for the immediate competition window.
Opening Match Outlook
Indiana's first group‑stage game is scheduled for Tuesday night against Peru, a match that will test the newly formed chemistry among the imported players and the home‑grown talent. Coach Mike Woodson expressed confidence that Alexis's experience and Yigitoglu's practice contributions will help the team build momentum as the tournament progresses.
