Arkansas women's basketball coach Kelsi Musick is preparing for her second season at the helm, a milestone that has brought a renewed sense of confidence and ease.
Having spent a year acclimating to the program, Musick says she now feels more at home with the Razorbacks, allowing her to focus on the details that will shape the team's trajectory.
Defensive Reinforcements and a New Coordinator
To address last season's defensive shortcomings, Musick appointed former Kansas City coach Dionnah Jackson‑Durrett as her defensive coordinator, tasking her with tightening a unit that finished 113th nationally.
Jackson‑Durrett brings a fresh perspective and a track record of defensive improvement, and together they have outlined a plan to elevate the Razorbacks' defensive efficiency.
An Up‑Tempo Offense Takes Shape
Musick intends to implement a five‑out, high‑tempo dribble‑drive offense that leverages speed and spacing, a system that aligns with the new roster's skill set.
The approach reflects her belief that a fast‑paced style can create more scoring opportunities while also generating transition defense chances.
The upcoming roster will feature only two returners — Emily Robinson and Aisha Hassan — while 12 newcomers will join the squad, providing depth and fresh talent.
Last season the Razorbacks played at the 18th fastest pace in the country, and Musick hopes the new personnel will be better prepared for the physical demands of SEC competition.
Musick's experience rebuilding programs, most notably at Oral Roberts where she turned the program around, gives her confidence that Arkansas has the resources and talent to compete and improve each year.
