Auburn’s SEC Media Days this week featured two of the program’s newest focal points, quarterback Byrum Brown and offensive coordinator Alex Golesh, who returned to Tampa to reflect on their shared past and preview the upcoming campaign.
A Shared Journey at South Florida
Brown and Golesh spent three seasons together at the University of South Florida, guiding the Bulls to a 23‑15 record and laying the groundwork for a resurgence that culminated in a 9‑3 finish last fall under Golesh’s head‑coaching tenure.
Golesh was elevated to head coach in December 2022, a move that seemed to unlock the team’s potential, and his leadership produced a breakthrough season that left the program buzzing heading into the next chapter.
Brown, who logged over 3,000 passing yards and added more than 1,000 rushing yards in the same season, spoke enthusiastically about the chance to start anew at Auburn, noting that the offensive scheme and the fan base present an exciting platform for growth.
He also took the opportunity to thank his time at USF, where he had been the fourth‑string quarterback before seizing the starting role, and expressed confidence that the experience will translate into production on the Plains.
