Ryker Wixom, a 6‑foot‑2 junior tight end at Saugus High, has turned a typical game‑day routine into a community service project.
On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, the entire football squad and Coach Jason Bornn will gather in the school’s parking lot to collect canned goods for the Santa Clarita Food Pantry.
A Team Effort Off the Field
Instead of participating in a passing tournament, the players chose to channel their energy into helping neighbors in need, setting up tables where residents can drop off donations.
Wixom emphasized that the drive is about more than competition; it’s a direct way to address food insecurity in the Santa Clarita area.
The pantry will dispatch a truck to retrieve the accumulated items, ensuring that the donations reach families throughout the valley.
Coach Bornn praised the students’ initiative, noting that the experience reinforces values of teamwork and civic responsibility beyond the gridiron.
Community members are expected to line up early, bringing non‑perishable staples that will be sorted and distributed by pantry volunteers.
