Andrew Agozzino, a veteran of North American professional hockey, surprised fans on Tuesday when he posted an Instagram announcement declaring his retirement from the sport.
Over 14 seasons in the American Hockey League, the 35‑year‑old compiled 847 regular‑season appearances, placing him 29th all‑time in games played, while his 284 goals and 378 assists positioned him 28th and 48th respectively on the league’s historic leaderboards.
AHL All‑Star honors came in 2013 and 2019, and his NHL cameo with the Colorado Avalanche yielded three goals and nine assists across 53 games.
Agozzino’s journey through the AHL took him to a dozen franchises, including stints with San Antonio, Chicago, Wilkes‑Barre/Scranton, Belleville, San Jose and Tucson, where he most recently posted 19 goals and 20 assists in 56 games for the Roadrunners.
Beyond the scoresheet, the forward was recognized twice with the IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year award for his community relations work, first with San Jose in 2022‑23 and later with Tucson in 2025‑26.
Legacy and Community Impact
Agozzino’s blend of on‑ice durability and off‑ice service leaves a lasting imprint on the teams he represented and the fans who followed his career.
