A Strategic Addition for the Torrent
Stefanie McKeough has been appointed assistant coach of the Seattle Torrent ahead of the 2026‑27 Premier Women’s Hockey League season, a move that adds a seasoned strategist to the franchise’s bench.
McKeough arrives after three years as an assistant with the Boston Fleet, where she helped the club reach the inaugural PWHL Walter Cup Finals and contributed to a 62‑point regular‑season campaign that tied for first place. She also served as interim head coach for a 5‑1 victory on April 7, showcasing her ability to lead under pressure.
Her coaching résumé extends internationally, having guided Canada’s Under‑18 National Women’s Team through three IIHF U18 Women’s World Championships and spent two seasons at Sweden’s SDHL club Göteborg Hockey Club from 2018 to 2020.
At the University of Ottawa, she shaped the Gee‑Gees into one of the program’s most competitive squads, posting a 16‑7‑2 record – the best in sixteen years – while also serving as an assistant for three seasons.
McKeough’s playing pedigree includes a 2014 graduation from the University of Wisconsin, where she was part of an NCAA championship team in 2011 and earned WCHA Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2012, underscoring a deep connection to the sport at both the collegiate and professional levels.
The Torrent’s head‑coaching appointment of Christine Bumstead, announced on June 11, sets the stage for McKeough’s role in shaping a competitive roster as the team looks to contend in its second season.
