Mississippi State’s 2026 football outlook is taking shape around two clear priorities: a fortified offensive line and a revamped secondary. Coach Jeff Lebby, who has guided the program for two seasons, emphasized that the team’s biggest jumps will come from protecting the new starting quarterback, Kamario Taylor, and from strengthening the defense’s ability to shut down opposing receivers.
Protecting the New Signal‑Caller
Lebby explained that the offensive line’s performance will be the foundation for Taylor’s success. After two years of inconsistency, the Bulldogs have added transfers DJ Chester, Miles McVay and LJ Prudhomme to inject talent and depth. The coaching staff is high on the top six linemen but knows that spots seven through ten will require careful development to maintain consistency throughout the season.
The coach also stressed the importance of a balanced running attack. By improving protection up front, Mississippi State hopes to open lanes for its backs and keep defenses honest, which in turn eases the burden on Taylor as he settles into the starting role.
Revamping the Secondary
In the secondary, the Bulldogs are replacing key safeties and banking on a mix of transfers, a top‑rated freshman in Bralan Womack, and the return of cornerback Kelley Jones. Jones, projected as a first‑round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, is expected to anchor the backfield.
