Germany unveils 2026 World Cup roster
Germany has unveiled the 20‑player roster that will represent the nation at the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup, co‑hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands.
Championship experience meets youthful vigor
The squad boasts nine athletes who were part of the 2023 world‑championship winning side, complemented by 13 members of the 2025 European champion team. Coach André Henning emphasized that the average age of just over 25 makes this one of the youngest line‑ups in the tournament.
Coach Henning’s vision
André Henning praised the team's dedication and potential, highlighting the mix of experienced players and newcomers. He noted that the side carries the confidence of recent title successes while remaining hungry for its first major triumph together.
Opening matches and venue
The German team will face Malaysia on August 15, Belgium on August 17 and France on August 19 in the group stage. All matches are scheduled at the Belfius Hockey Stadium in Wavre, Belgium, a venue that promises a vibrant atmosphere for the competition.
Leadership and debutants
Team captain Tom Grambusch will lead a group that includes five players making their senior debut on the world stage. Fourteen others have already tasted title celebrations, adding depth and composure to the lineup.
Among the debutants are names such as Benedikt Schwarzhaupt, Johannes Große, Michel Struthoff, Erik Kleinlein, Malte Hellwig, Joshua Onyekwue Nnaji, Hugo von Montgelas, Antheus Barry, Jakob Brilla, Justus Warweg and Linus Müller, each bringing a fresh perspective to the squad.
