Lockett's Return to Mississippi State
Tootie Lockett, the former Starkville High School basketball standout, has officially joined the Mississippi State University Bulldogs after completing two seasons at Itawamba Community College.
During her sophomore year at Itawamba, she averaged nearly 15 points and five rebounds per game, earning MACCC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year honors and an NJCAA All‑American honorable mention.
Lockett’s decision to return to her hometown was motivated by a deep connection to the community and the chance to wear the maroon and white for the first time at the collegiate level.
A New Backcourt Duo
She will line up alongside transfer guard Reese Beaty, a combination that the coaching staff believes can bring a dynamic spark to the team’s offense.
Coach Praises the New Additions
Head coach Sam Purcell has spoken highly of Lockett’s off‑court demeanor, calling her one of the funniest people he knows and emphasizing her team‑first attitude.
Looking Ahead
The Bulldogs are optimistic that Lockett’s playmaking ability and scoring touch will help the program rebound from a season that ended without an NCAA Tournament berth.
