Jeremiah Johnson, a redshirt junior edge rusher, has completed his move from Butte Community College to West Virginia University, bringing a blend of size and experience to the Mountaineers' defensive front.
A Defensive Boost for the Mountaineers
Standing at 6‑foot‑2 and weighing 247 pounds, Johnson posted a standout 2025 season in the NorCal Conference, earning Defensive MVP honors after recording 34 tackles, 11 for loss, 7.5 sacks and three pass breakups.
His arrival comes at a time when the program lists only four players at the edge position, a scarcity that opens the door for increased snaps. Coaches anticipate he will see action in a rotational capacity behind established names Tobi Haastrup and Harper Holloman.
With the NCAA’s recent eligibility adjustments, Johnson may retain more than two seasons of eligibility, giving the staff flexibility to develop his contributions over the next few years.
The move underscores West Virginia’s strategy to bolster depth while maintaining a competitive edge in the upcoming 2026 campaign.
