Trent Frazier Returns to Wellington with Free Youth Basketball Clinic
Former Wellington High School basketball standout Trent Frazier brought his annual youth basketball clinic back to his hometown for the fourth consecutive year, drawing 65 eager participants aged eight to fourteen. The free camp, held at a local gymnasium, required advance registration but welcomed any youngster ready to learn the fundamentals of the game.
The event was made possible through the collaboration of Frazier, his longtime assistants Mike Colin and Gus Ponce, and a handful of community partners. Chick‑fil‑A provided a complimentary lunch for every camper, while the Wellington Wolves supplied commemorative T‑shirts that participants could keep as a memento of the day.
Coaching focused on core skills such as passing, catching, dribbling, rebounding and shooting, with particular emphasis on defensive footwork and creating space for uncontested jump shots. Frazier and his staff guided the youngsters through drills that mirrored the techniques he honed during his own high school championship run in 2015.
Since graduating from the University of Illinois in 2022 with a degree in sports management, Frazier has taken his game overseas, competing in Serbia, Russia, Finland, Montenegro, Lithuania and Croatia. He currently operates as a free agent, searching for a new team for the upcoming season while remaining committed to developing the next generation of players back home.
Beyond the court, the clinic served as a community gathering point, offering mentorship and a chance for local youth to interact with a role model who has navigated the transition from high school stardom to international professional play. Frazier expressed optimism that the camp would become a staple of Wellington’s summer sports calendar.
