From Brisbane to Montlake: Devers’ Journey to Washington
Tristan Devers, a 6‑foot‑4 guard known for his length and defensive versatility, has officially joined the University of Washington men’s basketball program after being released by the Brisbane Bullets of the Australian National Basketball League.
During his three seasons with the Bullets, Devers posted modest numbers — 4.9 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 29 games last year — but he did flash moments of brilliance, including a career‑high 15‑point performance on the road against Perth.
His arrival adds depth to a backcourt that already features sharpshooters such as Parker Friedrichsen and veteran Wesley Yates III, while Ryan Beasley also looks to carve out a role.
Coaches have highlighted Devers’s ability to stretch the floor, provide secondary playmaking and bring a toughness that complements the Huskies’ up‑tempo style. “He brings a unique blend of size and shooting,” a staff member said.
Devers will have to adjust quickly to the physicality and pace of the Big Ten, a conference renowned for its defensive intensity. The transition from the Australian game, where he was used as a mismatch weapon for the Nunawading Spectres, to the American college environment presents both challenges and opportunities.
Off the court, the guard is focused on building chemistry with teammates and earning a spot in the rotation. “I want to contribute as a versatile player, bring leadership and help the team win,” he said in a recent interview.
