A Fresh Start for Eugene Athletics
Eugene High School in Mid‑Missouri is set to field a junior varsity football team this fall, marking the latest addition to a growing list of area programs that have revived tackle football in recent years.
The initiative comes as the school also expanded its boys soccer offering last year, giving athletes more choices during the autumn season. With only about 18 players on the roster and no seniors, the team will rely on a blend of underclassmen eager to gain experience on the gridiron.
Corey Teonjes, a coach with stints at School of the Osage and Webster Groves, has been appointed head coach. His background in both program development and competitive play is expected to shape the team’s early trajectory.
The schedule features seven Monday night contests, starting with an away game at Osage on August 31. The first home matchup is slated for September 14 against Versailles, a date that has already generated buzz among students and families.
Community leaders hope the new program will not only fill a long‑standing gap in school sports but also foster school spirit and provide a pathway for young athletes to pursue higher‑level competition.
