A press conference held in Tokyo on July 24, 2026, turned into a platform for the Japan Football Association to outline the next chapter of the national side's coaching structure.
A Strategic Transition for Japanese Football
Hajime Moriyasu, who has been at the helm since 2023, will stay on as head coach through the 2027 Asian Cup, a tournament that Japan will host on home ground.
JFA President Tsuneyasu Miyamoto emphasized that Moriyasu's continued presence is part of a broader plan to build on recent qualifying successes and to maintain tactical cohesion.
Masakuni Yamamoto, chairman of the technical committee, added that the coaching staff will focus on integrating emerging talent while preserving the experienced core that has served the team well.
The association also confirmed that Go Oiwa, currently an assistant coach, is slated to succeed Moriyasu once the 2027 Asian Cup concludes, ensuring a smooth transition.
The move reflects a deliberate strategy to blend stability with forward‑looking development as Japan prepares for the next competitive cycle.
