As the 2026 CIAC boys soccer season approaches, the spotlight is on the four teams that captured championships a year ago. Each of the 2025 title winners will return to defend their crowns, setting the stage for another competitive year across the state's classification brackets.
Class Structure and Enrollment
The classification system groups schools by enrollment, with Class LL representing the largest programs, followed by Class L, Class M and Class S. Class LL now comprises 41 programs, all with enrollments of at least 606 boys, including a single co‑op team. Class L contains 43 teams whose enrollments fall between 392 and 605, also featuring one co‑op. Class M mirrors that count with 43 teams in the 264‑to‑391 range, while Class S is the most populous with 49 programs and enrollments up to 263 boys.
Two notable movements have reshaped the brackets. Both Notre Dame‑West Haven and Xavier have advanced to Class LL for the upcoming campaign, while the defending Class S champion Somers remains in its traditional division. The only team that has chosen to forgo tournament eligibility is Gilbert, a Class S program that has opted out of the postseason.
Tournament Timeline
The regular season is slated to begin on September 8 and will run through early November, culminating in the CIAC tournament that starts on November 4. The championship series will wrap up on November 21‑22, providing a compact but intense finish to the year.
