The Lewis-Clark Bucs clinched the Idaho B State Championship on Saturday, defeating the Orofino Merchants B 17-7 in a rain-shortened contest at War Memorial Park. The final inning ended early due to the 10-run rule, but the scoreboard told a clear story of dominance.
A Victory Foretold
Coach Garrett Beckman had set the ambition of a state title at the start of the season, and the team delivered on that promise. Beckman praised the collective effort of players, coaches, parents, and the board that made the achievement possible, emphasizing how the win reflects the program’s upward trajectory.
Offensive firepower came from several key contributors. Blake Brower led the Bucs’ attack with three hits and two RBI, while Conrad Kress added a triple and three RBI. Damon Rubio contributed a hit and three RBI, and Henry Pernsteiner finished with a hit and two RBI. The balanced lineup proved too much for Orofino to handle.
Colt Schoo was the standout for the Merchants, collecting two hits including a double and driving in two runs, but the Bucs’ depth proved decisive. The win not only secured the championship but also established the Bucs as the first team from Northern Idaho to capture a B-level state title.
Looking Ahead
Garrett Beckman highlighted the importance of this milestone for the future of the Lewis-Clark American Legion baseball program and the Lewiston High School baseball pipeline. He noted that the victory serves as a catalyst for continued growth, inspiring the next generation of players and reinforcing community support for the sport.
