Mississippi State’s sophomore right‑hander Tomas Valincius was announced Thursday as the 2026 Ferriss Trophy winner, the premier award recognizing the best college baseball player in the state.
A Season of Dominance
Valincius transferred to Starkville from the University of Virginia last winter and quickly became the backbone of the Bulldogs’ rotation. In 13 starts he posted a 3.04 earned run average and struck out 112 batters, numbers that placed him among the nation’s most effective college pitchers.
His performance helped Mississippi State secure the No. 8 seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament, a milestone that underscores the team’s resurgence under first‑year head coach Brian O’Connor.
