Ravens Secure Silver Sportsmanship Award
The Hillcrest Academy Raven boys soccer squad has been honored with a Silver-level Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award from United Soccer Coaches, one of only sixteen programs nationwide to receive this distinction during the recent winter and spring seasons.
The award evaluates each team’s disciplinary record, specifically the proportion of matches that include fouls and the total number of cautions issued. Silver Award recipients typically record fouls in eleven to thirty percent of their games, reflecting a balanced approach between competitive intensity and sportsmanship.
Under the leadership of head coach Marcus Miller, the Ravens have maintained this standard for five straight seasons, marking the seventh occurrence of the honor within the past nine years. Miller’s guidance has cultivated a culture where discipline and respect are as valued as technical skill.
A Framework of Recognition
United Soccer Coaches categorizes teams into four tiers: Bronze (thirty‑one to fifty percent of matches with fouls), Silver (eleven to thirty percent), Gold (one to ten percent), and Platinum (no cards recorded throughout an entire season). This tiered system allows leagues to recognize programs that consistently demonstrate ethical play while still competing at a high level.
