A New Era for Women’s Baseball in Rockford
The International Women's Baseball Center is spearheading a multi‑phase redevelopment that will eventually house a museum and activity center, with completion targeted for 2030. The first phase focused on structural enhancements, while the second phase aims to celebrate the stadium’s storied past and provide educational programs that inspire the next generation of female athletes.
Named for longtime Rockford high school coach Charles Beyer, the stadium was the home of the Rockford Peaches from 1943 through 1954. The Peaches were the only team in the All‑American Girls Professional Baseball League to win four titles, a testament to the league’s competitive spirit and the community’s support during World War II, when the league was created to give professional opportunities to women athletes while many men were away at war.
The 2010 rededication ceremony honored former Peaches players, including Maybelle Blair, who remain ambassadors of the sport and symbols of the league’s enduring legacy. Their stories are woven into the stadium’s narrative, linking past achievements to present initiatives.
