The recent South Dakota Veterans of Foreign Wars baseball tournament wrapped up this weekend, bringing together teams from across the state in a series of divisional competitions that showcased both emerging talent and seasoned youth players.
Division Results
In the Charlie Division, Corsica/Stickney posted an immaculate 6-0 run through the bracket, culminating in a 5-3 victory over Emery in the championship game. The team’s path included wins over Avon, Salem, Alexandria and Scotland/Menno, and a 4-2 semifinal triumph over Bon Homme that highlighted a balanced attack of solid pitching and timely hitting.
The Alpha Division, held in Beresford, saw Lennox capture the title with a 9-1 win over Dell Rapids Light Blue. Their undefeated run demonstrated dominant pitching and a potent offense that kept opponents at bay throughout the tournament.
In the Bravo Division, played in Britton, Selby emerged champions after a dramatic 9-8 win over Britton. The team had earlier dispatched Gregory County 11-0 in the semifinals and then blanked them in the final, underscoring their resilience in close contests.
The Varsity level of the tournament concluded with Clark Area defeating the Mobridge Crusaders 7-5 in the championship game. Clark Area had secured a 5-1 semifinal win over MVP, while Mobridge edged WIN 9-8 in their own semifinal.
Other notable placements included third-place finishes for Parkston, who posted a 7-2 win over Bon Homme, and fifth-place honors shared by Mount Vernon and Scotland/Menno, each winning 5-4 games. The tournament also featured a fifth-place share for Webster/Roslyn, who defeated Parkston 2-1.
Overall, the event highlighted the competitive depth of South Dakota’s youth baseball circuit, with each division producing its own champion and a host of standout performances that will be remembered throughout the summer season.
