Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association have announced the 175 nominees for the 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, an honor that spotlights college football student‑athletes and coaches who excel in community service, academic achievement, and leadership.
The program, which has been presented by Allstate since 2008 and traces its roots back to 1992, evaluates candidates on the impact of their service projects, the hours they contribute, and the causes they champion, ranging from youth mentorship to veteran support.
A Tribute to Service and Leadership
Among the nominees, University of Wyoming quarterback Tyler Hughes stands out for his work with the Boys and Girls Club in Casper, where he organized a camp alongside fellow quarterback Mason Drube, and for his role in promoting bone‑marrow donations through the National Marrow Donor Program.
Hughes’ efforts are part of a broader tally of more than 2,600 community‑service hours recorded by Wyoming student‑athletes this past season, underscoring the team’s commitment to giving back.
The roster also features Gianna Bennett, a kicker at Northwestern College in Iowa, who became the first female student‑athlete nominated for the award and raised $40,000 for a maternal‑health education campaign.
In addition, 113 volunteers signed up for cheek‑swab registrations to expand the NMDP registry, while other nominees are advancing initiatives in youth mentorship, maternal health awareness, and support for military veterans.
The recognition ties into the legacy of the Wuerffel Trophy, awarded annually by the Wuerffel Foundation and Desire Street Ministries to the FBS player who best blends community service with leadership and performance, a tradition championed by Heisman winner Danny Wuerffel.
