The 27th Oregon Hoopla has taken over the streets of Salem, turning the capital city into a vibrant hub of basketball action from July 21 through July 26.
Organizers have turned the thoroughfares surrounding the Oregon State Capitol into a sprawling court, hosting 1‑on‑1, 2‑on‑2 and 3‑on‑3 tournaments that attract roughly 1,100 teams across every age group and skill level.
More Than Just Games
Beyond the competition, the festival offers free youth clinics run by local coaches, 3‑point and free‑throw contests, and a lively mix of food vendors and live music that draw an estimated 50,000 visitors each day.
Local businesses and the Salem YMCA have partnered with the event to provide prizes, sponsor activities and keep the community engaged throughout the week.
Roads Closed, Community Open
To accommodate the festivities, several streets in the downtown area will be closed from July 21 to July 26, a measure that underscores the event’s significance to the city’s summer calendar.
City officials say the closures are temporary and designed to ensure safety while allowing participants and spectators to enjoy the full scope of the tournament without interruption.
