A Milestone for Girls Hockey in Michigan
The Professional Women’s Hockey League’s Detroit franchise is set to make a lasting impact on the next generation of female athletes with its first-ever girls hockey camp, scheduled to take place in the heart of northern Michigan.
Running from August 10 through August 13, the camp will welcome participants between the ages of eight and nineteen, providing a unique opportunity to train in a high‑performance environment that mirrors the standards of the PWHL itself.
Camp director and PWHL Detroit head coach Josh Sciba will oversee the program, bringing his extensive playing and coaching experience to guide each session. Joining him will be former PWHL Detroit roster members Casey Borgiel and Taylor Girard, who will deliver on‑ice instruction and share insights from their professional journeys.
Beyond skill development, the camp emphasizes mentorship, offering young athletes a chance to connect with role models who have navigated the transition from collegiate to professional hockey. Participants can expect intensive drills, power‑skating sessions, and situational games designed to sharpen both technical ability and game intelligence.
All instruction will be held at Centre ICE Arena, a state‑of‑the‑art facility that has become a hub for elite hockey activity in Traverse City. The venue’s top‑tier ice surface and supportive atmosphere are intended to foster an environment where aspiring players can push their limits and gain confidence on the ice.
