The Iowa Hawkeyes have extended a scholarship to Parker McDaniel, a 6‑foot‑3 shooting guard from Tulsa, Oklahoma, who is rated as a three‑star prospect and the third‑best player in his home state.
McDaniel, who stands 6‑foot‑3 and weighs 170 pounds, plays for South Central Prep and competes on the Southern Assault AAU circuit, where he has drawn attention from a dozen major programs.
His recruitment list includes offers from Washington, West Virginia, Kansas, Utah, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Northwestern, California, Mississippi State, Hawaii, Oral Roberts, Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston, underscoring the national interest in his talents.
In February, McDaniel traveled to Iowa City for an unofficial visit, where he watched the Hawkeyes defeat Nebraska 57‑52, an experience that helped cement his connection to the program.
The following month he received an invitation to USA Basketball’s junior national team minicamp in Indianapolis, further exposing him to elite competition.
According to Rivals, he is ranked 115th nationally, the No. 28 shooting guard, and the second‑best player in Oklahoma, figures that place him squarely in the mid‑tier of top prospects.
A Recruit with Multiple Options
After weighing his options, McDaniel announced his commitment to Iowa, citing the coaching staff’s vision and the chance to contribute early in his collegiate career.
His decision reflects both his athletic versatility and his academic focus, as he plans to major in business while continuing to develop his game.
For the Hawkeyes, the addition of McDaniel adds a dynamic perimeter player who can stretch defenses and create scoring opportunities, a prospect that aligns with the program’s long‑term strategy.
