North Carolina State University has committed a landmark financial package to its men’s basketball support staff, allocating more than $1 million to the three senior assistants under new head coach Justin Gainey.
A Historic Pay Scale
Alvin Brooks III becomes the highest‑paid assistant in program history, securing a $500,000 annual salary, while Matthew Driscoll and Anthony Goins join him with contracts worth $450,000 and $425,000 respectively. This trio marks the first time any NC State assistant has breached the $400,000 threshold, underscoring the university’s ambition to compete at the national level.
Collectively, the three coaches bring nearly seven decades of collegiate experience, having navigated multiple conference realignments and NCAA tournaments. Their combined expertise reflects Gainey’s emphasis on character, depth and a winning mentality when assembling his staff.
Building a Full‑Stack Coaching Unit
First‑year Power Four assistants Riley Collins and Ogi Vasiljevic were added at $85,000 and $110,000 per year, while William Comar was appointed Director of Men’s Basketball Operations with a $125,000 salary. Together, the group forms a layered coaching architecture designed to sustain long‑term growth.
Gainey, who previously served as an assistant at Tennessee and South Alabama, said his hiring strategy centered on finding individuals who share a commitment to integrity and excellence. The investment signals a clear message to recruits and peers that NC State is prepared to back its basketball program with tangible resources.
