The Western Michigan University men's basketball program has once again been honored for its scholarly achievements, capturing the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2025‑26 academic year.
This marks the fourth straight season the Broncos have earned the distinction and the seventh overall, underscoring a sustained commitment to academic performance alongside athletic competition.
Academic Metrics
During the reporting period the squad posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.37, a figure that reflects consistent classroom engagement. The fall semester set a new benchmark with a 3.59 GPA, the highest recorded for any semester in the program's history.
The recognition also highlighted individual scholarly effort, as five Broncos earned placement on the NABC Honors Court.
Honors Court Selections
The honorees — Max Burton, Trey Lewis, Declan Peterson, Michael Sulaka and Justice Williams — each maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2, meeting the rigorous standard set by the association.
University officials praised the student‑athletes for balancing rigorous training schedules with demanding coursework, noting that the achievement reinforces the institution's broader mission of developing well‑rounded leaders.
