Hudson Polk, a former University of Arkansas baseball player known for his power at the plate, has accepted an assistant coaching position at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas.
In his new role, Polk will serve as the program’s hitting coach and recruiting coordinator, tasks that align with his experience as a slugger who once recorded three home runs and 12 runs batted in for the Razorbacks.
From Player to Coach
Polk’s transition from the diamond to the dugout was foreshadowed by Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn, who predicted years ago that the Arkansas native would eventually pursue a career in coaching.
During the 2025 season, Polk served as a student assistant coach while also holding the title of offensive analyst for the Razorbacks, gaining valuable experience behind the scenes.
A Strategic Addition for the Blue Dragons
Hutchinson Community College’s baseball program, commonly referred to as the Blue Dragons, will benefit from Polk’s blend of playing pedigree and analytical insight. His appointment is expected to bolster both the team’s offensive strategy and its recruiting pipeline.
Athletic director Nate Thompson expressed enthusiasm about the hire, noting that Polk’s familiarity with high‑level collegiate competition will help attract talented prospects to the junior college ranks.
The move also underscores the growing trend of former collegiate stars returning to the Midwest to contribute to community‑college programs, a pattern that reflects both regional pride and a desire to develop the next generation of talent.
