A Bittersweet Farewell
The Da Beauty League, a summer institution that has lit up the Twin Cities’ hockey scene for years, is set to play its final season in 2026, marking the end of an era that blended elite competition with community spirit.
Games will be held each Wednesday through August 19 at Edina’s Braemar Arena, with three matchups each night, giving fans a chance to see a rotating roster of talent from professional, junior and collegiate ranks.
The atmosphere is deliberately family‑friendly, featuring autograph sessions, affordable tickets and a festive backdrop that has made the league a staple for local families looking for summer entertainment.
This year’s lineup reads like a who’s‑who of Minnesota hockey, showcasing NHL stars such as Jake Guentzel and Brock Boeser, alongside rising women’s stars from the PWHL and top college athletes, all of whom have previously taken the ice for the league.
Among the notable participants are Jimmy Snuggerud, Freddy Gaudreau, Travis Boyd and Dustin Byfuglien, each bringing a blend of NHL experience and local pride to the rink.
Co‑founder Ben Hankinson described the shutdown as bittersweet, noting that the logistical strain of coordinating volunteers and aligning professional schedules made continuation unsustainable.
All proceeds from ticket sales are earmarked for Minnesota charities, with this season’s partners including the United Heroes League, the Hendrickson Foundation, the Herb Brooks Foundation and Shine a Light, underscoring the league’s long‑standing commitment to giving back.
Legacy in the Community
As the final whistle blows, the league’s impact will linger in local rinks, charity drives and the memories of fans who gathered each Wednesday night to cheer on their favorite stars.
