Shawn Savage has been appointed head coach of the Greenwood Gators boys basketball team, taking over a program that finished among the top three in the fourth region last season.
Savage arrives with a deep résumé that includes eight seasons as an assistant on the Bowling Green High School varsity staff and a tenure as head coach of the Bowling Green Junior High boys team, where he guided the squad to a 2026 district championship and was part of a runner‑up finish at the 2025 state tournament.
A Family‑First Philosophy
At the heart of Savage’s plan is a family culture that treats each player as an extension of the roster, emphasizing mentorship, accountability and personal growth both on and off the court.
He stresses that success will be measured not only by wins but by the quality of the high school experience, ensuring that athletes leave the program with confidence and a clear pathway forward.
Savage’s roots in Bowling Green run deep; a graduate of Campbellsville University, he grew up in the same community he now leads, giving him a unique perspective on the local talent pool and the expectations of the fan base.
The Gators will open the upcoming season with a renewed focus on discipline and cohesion, aiming to translate the strong foundation laid at the junior high and high school levels into competitive play at the varsity level.
Fans and alumni alike are optimistic that the new leadership will restore the program’s momentum and perhaps even push the team toward a deeper run in the state tournament, building on the runner‑up finish achieved in 2025.
