Santa Fe College taps Brad Powell to lead baseball program
Brad Powell, who spent several years as the pitching coach at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, has been named the new head coach of Santa Fe College’s baseball team. His appointment comes as the program looks to build on a recent surge of success that saw the team set a school record for wins in a single season and advance deeper into the conference tournament than it had in nearly a decade.
Powell will officially take over the role on August 1, marking his first head coaching position at the collegiate level. The college’s athletic director, Chanda Stebbins, said she is confident that Powell’s experience and proven ability to develop talent will help sustain the program’s winning tradition.
During his tenure at Arkansas Pine Bluff, Powell’s pitchers helped the team achieve its most successful season in recent memory, a performance that culminated in a historic run in the conference tournament — the furthest the program has progressed since 2014. That record-breaking season, combined with his coaching pedigree, was a key factor in the college’s decision to hire him.
Stebbins emphasized that Powell’s appointment aligns with the college’s broader goal of expanding its athletic offerings and reinforcing a culture of excellence. “We are excited to welcome a coach who not only brings a strong track record but also shares our vision for growing the program,” she said.
