The University of Tennessee’s baseball squad is basking in a wave of individual recognition as the SEC Tournament draws near.
All‑SEC Honors
Second‑team pitcher Tegan Kuhns earned a spot on the All‑SEC second team after a dominant conference stretch in which he posted a 4‑3 record, a 3.52 ERA and 71 strikeouts against just 11 walks.
Freshman shortstop Trent Grindlinger earned a place on the SEC All‑Freshman team, leading the Vols with a .322 batting average and a .398 on‑base percentage while adding four home runs, five doubles and 18 RBIs.
Right‑hander Cam Appenzeller, also a freshman, opened the season with a perfect stretch of 20 innings without allowing an earned run, though his recent outings have been marred by a 5.77 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP.
Kuhns has proved versatile, rotating between Friday night and Saturday starter roles while also collecting two SEC Pitcher of the Week awards during the regular season.
Team Outlook
Tennessee enters the SEC Tournament as the 10‑seed with a 36‑19 overall record and a 15‑15 mark in conference play, having turned a rocky start — four series that yielded a 4‑8 record — into a strong finish that included an 11‑7 surge over the last six series.
The Vols will open against South Carolina at roughly 5:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday at the Hoover Met, a game that will be called by Dave Neal and Lance Cormier on the SEC Network.
With the accolades mounting and the tournament looming, the team hopes to translate individual brilliance into a deep run that could redefine the season’s narrative.
