The University of North Dakota announced this week that it has extended the contract of head men’s hockey coach Dane Jackson, rewarding a debut season that exceeded expectations. The Fighting Hawks finished the year with a 29‑10‑1 record, the most wins since the 2015‑16 campaign, and captured the Penrose Cup as NCHC regular‑season champions while making their first NCAA Frozen Four appearance in over a decade.
Leadership Continuity
Alongside Jackson’s new deal, associate head coach Matt Smaby and general manager Bryn Chyzyk signed three‑year agreements, ensuring stability in the program’s leadership core. Assistant coach Dillon Simpson also received a pay increase, reinforcing one of the nation’s top defensive units.
Jackson took the opportunity to thank Dr. Armacost, Bill Chaves, alumni, donors and fans for their unwavering support, highlighting the collective effort that made the season possible.
Looking Ahead
The coaching staff, including Mark Poolman, John Fitzgerald, Jean‑Philippe Lamoureux, Dan Johansson and Pat Swanson, were praised for their tireless work behind the scenes. Jackson emphasized the program’s goal of building a consistent contender for both NCHC and National Championships, noting that the team will open the 2026‑27 season with an exhibition game against Augustana on October 3, 2026.
