The stolen merchandise included Doritos, gummies, Starburst Minis, a Big Mama sausage, lemonade and Slurpees, amounting to a total of $37.60. The items were taken from the convenience store while the team was preparing for the Puma NXTPro basketball tournament.
Coach's Deception
Coach Malik Harvey, who works for the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services, initially attempted to shield the teenagers by lying to detectives. His false statements led to additional charges of child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Sheriff's Warning
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd used the incident to remind visitors that theft will not be tolerated in the county. He emphasized that even minor shoplifting can result in serious legal consequences, especially when it involves minors and adults who aid them.
