The alliance brings together the ACC, Big East, American Athletic, Atlantic 10, Colonial Athletic Association, Big South and Metro Atlantic Athletic conferences, each sending representatives to collaborate on a unified approach.
A coordinated pipeline for officials
At the helm of the initiative is Pualani Spurlock‑Welsh, a veteran Division I referee with 18 years of experience and four Final Four assignments, who will serve as Supervisor of Officials for the ACC, Big East and American conferences.
Spurlock‑Welsh will oversee recruitment, training, evaluation and retention efforts, creating a structured progression path that moves officials from mid‑major circuits to the premier stages of the sport.
By standardizing assignment strategies and enhancing educational resources, the coalition aims to ensure that every game benefits from well‑trained officials who are evaluated against a common set of criteria.
