Brill had honed his craft on the West Coast, skating for youth clubs before moving to the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League in Canada, where he logged 115 games as a defenseman, contributing 11 goals and 28 assists.
At the University of Oregon, he was set to compete in the American Collegiate Hockey Association, the same league that pits many aspiring professionals against each other in a high‑intensity schedule. The Ducks’ home games are played at The Rink Exchange within the Lane Events Center, a venue that will now bear the weight of a missing teammate.
