Virginia field hockey announced this week that Ole Keusgen, the program’s head coach, has appointed Brendan Creed as an assistant coach, a move that promises to deepen the team’s tactical repertoire and international outlook.
A Global Player Turned Coach
Creed arrives after a distinguished playing career that spanned from 2015 to 2024, during which he earned 144 caps for England and Great Britain and contributed to the nation’s fifth‑place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. His résumé includes a European Championship silver medal in 2023, a bronze in 2017, a Pan American Cup silver in 2025 and an EHL bronze in 2015, as well as Commonwealth Games medals from 2018 and 2022.
Beyond the pitch, Creed has held the position of High‑Performance coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team, where he helped shape development pathways and performance strategies. He holds USA Field Hockey Level 1 and Level 3 certifications and previously served as the team’s High‑Performance coach with USA Field Hockey.
A native of Solihull, England, Creed combines his British roots with a global perspective, having studied sports and exercise science at Sheffield Hallam University and later earning a degree in psychology from The Open University. His academic background complements his coaching philosophy, emphasizing both physical preparation and mental resilience.
Ole Keusgen expressed enthusiasm about the new addition, stating that Creed’s extensive experience and proven track record will be invaluable as the program continues to compete at the highest level.
