Camp Concludes with Record Turnout
The 20th edition of the Shoot the Lights Out Basketball Camp wrapped up this week at Avoca Central School, drawing more than 70 youngsters from across the United States. Participants traveled from Arizona and Oklahoma, while local kids arrived from towns such as Avoca, Bath, Corning, Prattsburgh, Hornell, Canisteo‑Greenwood, Wayland‑Cohocton, Jasper‑Troupsburg, Bradford, Dundee, Addison, and Wellsville.
Coaching Staff Brings Local Expertise
The camp’s coaching roster blended seasoned veterans with emerging mentors. Trista Sullivan, the Avoca‑Prattsburgh varsity girls coach and former Keuka College player, joined Henry Morrison, a recent Hammondsport graduate and Class D All‑State standout, and Chris Sullivan, a Section Five Hall of Fame inductee and former St. John Fisher coach. Additional mentors included Aaron Lane, Max Young, Andrew Morrison, Keira Marsh, Steve Sutfin, and guest instructor Paige Emborsky of Keuka College.
Awards Highlight Emerging Talent
Awards recognized standout performances. Hayden Shutt of Wellsville and Maggie Smith of Bath were named Campers of the Week. Alyssa Symonds from Addison captured the Caitlin Clark Shooter of the Week award, while Grayson Enders of Bath received the Steph Curry Shooter of the Week honor. Most Improved Camper recognitions went to Alex Wilson from Corning and Janiah Crowder of Avoca‑Prattsburgh.
Looking Ahead to 2027
Coaches’ awards were presented to Hudson Nadjadi, Kylee Fink, Damien Elward, Piper Frazier, and Zeb Sanford. The camp will return in July 2027 for a session at Avoca Central School, and a second Shoot the Lights Out camp is slated for August 3‑7 at Athens High School in Athens, Pennsylvania.
