Fresh Faces Aim to Revitalize UNH Hockey
The University of New Hampshire is set to welcome six new freshmen to its men’s ice hockey program, a move designed to bounce back from an early exit in last season’s playoffs. Coach Dan Lacroix emphasized that the incoming class brings a blend of skill, size and international experience that could reshape the team’s dynamics.
Among the newcomers is Guité, a physically gifted forward who more than doubled his offensive production in the previous season, and Wyatt Kennedy, a towering defenseman whose +37 rating over 66 games last year highlighted his reliability on the blue line. Both players are expected to add depth and stability to the roster.
Hyles arrives from Omaha, where he led his former club with 42 points and earned a trade acquisition that has generated buzz among analysts. Romeo, a prolific goal scorer who netted 28 goals in 62 appearances, and Zebeski, the standout from the 2026 OHL Postseason with a +20 rating, round out the offensive threats.
Defensive additions include Parker von Richter, a shutdown specialist who recently joined the Pittsburgh Penguins organization, bringing a reputation for limiting opponents’ chances. The coaching staff believes the mix of talent will translate into a more competitive schedule and better results.
A Strategic Overhaul
Beyond individual performances, the team’s management sees the fresh talent as part of a broader strategic overhaul. By integrating players from diverse geographic backgrounds — including Durham, New Hampshire; Chicoutimi, Quebec; Omaha, Nebraska; and various Ontario locales — the program hopes to foster a richer cultural environment and a more adaptable style of play.
The upcoming season will test how quickly these freshmen can adjust to the collegiate pace, but early indications suggest that the blend of experience and youthful energy could finally deliver the resurgence the Wildcats have been seeking.
