An investigation has been launched into the Austin FC academy after multiple players were accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct. The allegations involve interactions between academy participants and have drawn the attention of both local police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Austin police confirmed the existence of the investigation but indicated that further details cannot be released while the case remains ongoing. The FBI has also been involved, visiting the club’s training facility to conduct interviews with those connected to the allegations.
Austin FC and Major League Soccer issued a joint statement acknowledging the investigations and announcing that all academy activities for the affected age group have been suspended immediately. The clubs emphasized their commitment to cooperating fully with law enforcement and to prioritizing the safety of young athletes.
The academy fields five teams that span the under‑13 to under‑18 age brackets, encompassing more than 100 players who travel from across the United States to train at the club’s facilities. Many of these athletes participate in MLS Next, the league’s youth competition that began in 2020.
While several players have been disciplined as a result of the inquiry, no members of the academy staff have been implicated. The FBI’s presence at the training site underscores the seriousness with which the allegations are being treated.
Response from the league and support agencies
The US Center for SafeSport has been notified of the situation, and both Austin FC and MLS have pledged to take additional steps to protect youth athletes. This includes pausing any internal proceedings until the criminal investigation concludes, ensuring that the club’s response aligns with external findings.
