Cory Cardeiro Returns to Lead Durfee Boys Basketball for 2026‑27 Season

The alum aims to revive a storied program by blending discipline, leadership and community engagement.

Cory Cardeiro, a Durfee High School alumnus and former three‑sport captain, has been appointed head coach of the boys basketball program for the 2026‑27 season, taking the helm of a team that last saw action under interim guidance.

A Familiar Face Returns

During the previous season he served as the junior varsity mentor and stepped in to coach a single varsity game, where his strategic adjustments earned commendation from Bridgewater‑Raynham head coach Doug Alves, who highlighted Cardeiro’s poise and tactical acumen.

A Vision Rooted in Discipline

Cardeiro says he wants to restore the winning culture that once defined Durfee basketball, emphasizing discipline, leadership and the development of players who can compete at the collegiate level. He plans to strengthen the youth pipeline and create pathways that keep talent within the community.

Connecting Past and Present

At a recent alumni event, Cardeiro presented his jersey to former star Chris Herren, honoring the legacy of Thomas “Skip” Karam, under whose guidance the program captured five state championships. The gesture underscored a commitment to linking the school’s rich history with its future aspirations.

Looking Forward

The new coaching staff is already engaging alumni, seeking to fill the stands and generate excitement among families and supporters. With a focus on building a strong foundation through the youth system, Cardeiro believes the program can once again contend for championships and provide a platform for student‑athletes to reach the next level.
